Crowdfunding and Games

Just hours ago, Ouya's Kickstarter campaign closed with over $8 million raised in one month. For those living under a rock, Ouya is an open source video game console that costs $99. They figured the best way to finance their little console was through a crowd funding site called Kickstarter. In their own words "Kickstarter is the world's largest funding platform for creative projects. Every week, tens of thousands of amazing people pledge millions of dollars to projects from the worlds of music, film, art, technology, design, food, publishing and other creative fields."
Crowd funding has provided developers alternate investment routes. And while it has worked with projects like Ouya, there is no guarantee that it will work for everyone.

Diablo 3 Review: The Good, The Bad and Inferno

Recently the expected has happened: Diablo has consumed me and there's almost no turning back. Almost.
And I say this because I've been playing for 2 weeks straight and in the last week Diablo 3 became a very different game that I no longer enjoy. Don't get me wrong, I'm still addicted; but I have this love/hate relationship that is driving me crazy.

Is that a bird? A plane? No! It's Mass Effect 3!

Bioware is throwing it out of the park with their amazing marketing for Mass Effect 3. From the dramalicious cinematic trailer to the very expensive looking live-action TV spot, they're making sure everyone knows ME3 is going to be VERY INTENSE.
But the purpose of this article is to fill you in with a really creative strategy that some of you may or may not have heard of: sending copies to space with weather ballons.
In Bioware's words: "To celebrate Commander Shepard’s war to take Earth back, Mass Effect 3 will be the first console game launched into Earth's upper atmosphere on a historic voyage. And you have a chance to take home a piece of that history(...) Track the packages on their flights and be the first to arrive at the landing zone to win an early copy of Mass Effect that has survived space travel".
Wanna know what happened to all copies?

3 Things That Would Ruin Mass Effect 3 For Me

I'm one of those that can't wait for Mass Effect 3, CAN'T WAIT! That means I will read everything I can find about it and go fan girl on Kaidan-related updates like this. Most the things I've seen, make me confident that it's going to be amazing, but there are some situations or scenarios that would break my heart if they happened.

Video games ARE art. Next topic, please!

Like Kellee Santiago says to introduce her speech: "I'm here to tell you that video games are art. Great! Let's move on".
There is a big misconception about video games that may never be clarified. Not all games are the same. My mom used to think that there were two types of games: Mario and others where you kill people. (That later changed with Left 4 Dead and created the category “others where you kill zombies”). Violent video games exist; they can look beautiful like Battlefield 3 or creepy and gory like Killing Floor. But just because SOME games have blood, curse words, critical combos and big boobs, doesn’t mean ALL of them do.

Formula for success!

 Hey, it worked...

In a world where everything has been said and done, where media is transforming and the entertainment industries need to come up with new ideas to survive, it's hard for a newcomer to succeed. When it comes to videogames, it's pretty much the same.
But there are some people and companies who have beat the odds and made it to the top, and one of the is Rocksteady Studios.
